Last year my uncle was rushed to hospital in so much pain he couldn’t move. A scan found a growth on his lung. He was sent home for the weekend and told to come back Monday. Monday became almost a week.
We were all scared it was cancer. And the delay wasn’t medical. It was a referral letter that hadn’t been sent, a specialist we were told was away when she was at the hospital, and phone calls that went unanswered.
It wasn’t cancer. But I haven’t stopped thinking about that week. Everyone was doing their best. The system around them just wasn't built for it. My uncle paid for that in pain and fear.
I’ve spent my career in technology: building websites, running software for businesses, managing at an IT company, building apps. I have a social science degree, a deep interest in behavioural science, completed a medical rep course, and have always felt I belonged in healthcare. Matic Health is where the two finally meet.
